I HAD the honour to receive Baron Gericke's note of the 15th instant, in which he was good enough to inform me that the Netherlands Government have not considered it possible to comply with the request of the United States Government that the 16th October next should be fixed as the date of the meeting of the proposed Opium Conference.

I shall be glad if you will convey to the Netherlands Government the appreciation of His Majesty's Government of the friendly attitude adopted by them in this matter.
